Overview
Based on Auckland’s North Shore, I specialise in helping late starters begin their guitar journey in a way that feels relaxed, enjoyable, and achievable.
Maybe life got busy. Maybe confidence got in the way. Maybe you picked up a guitar once and quietly put it back down again. Or maybe you’ve simply spent years thinking, “One day I’d love to learn.”
You haven’t missed your chance.
At LATE START, the focus isn’t on perfection or pressure. It’s about jamming along to guitar-driven songs from the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties - the music that still gives you a buzz when it’s cranked to 11 is next level when you’re jamming along!
It’s about finally doing something you’ve always wanted to do, enjoying the process, and finding a real sense of satisfaction along the way.
Here’s a selection of great songs for inspiration, but you're welcome to choose any rock song you like.
The playlist is loosely organised by easier songs at the top, but don't let that influence you too much!
Read the section "3) Play Guitar" to better understand how we'll get you playing any song you want to play.
Your lessons are tailored for you, whether you've never picked up a guitar before or are returning after many years away.
We'll ease you and your fingers into it in a relaxed, practical way that gets you enjoying yourself sooner.
(There should be a Spotify on this page, if you don't see it - Here's a link to the playlist)

When we first get together, we'll work out a way to get from where you are now (whether you've never touched a guitar or used to play years ago) to where you want to be.
An example pathway from complete beginner to playing Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses might look something like this:
-
Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
-
The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Mile)
-
Dragon - April Sun In Cuba
-
Smashing Pumpkins - Today
-
Green Day - 21 Guns
-
Eagles - Take It Easy
-
Pearl Jam - Alive
-
Metallica - Seek and Destroy (or Enter Sandman)
-
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Your journey and song choices will be tailored to your goals and musical tastes.
Each song introduces new skills and prepares you for the next challenge.
By the end, you'll have a setlist of songs you can play, along with the foundations and confidence to continue the rest of your guitar journey on your own.

Don’t Own a Guitar Yet?
That’s completely fine.
There’s an option to hire a guitar for your lesson, so you can try things out properly before spending money on an instrument.
In fact, I usually recommend not rushing out to buy a guitar before your first session. Choosing the right guitar makes a huge difference when you’re learning, and I’m happy to help you work out what will suit you best.
Every lesson is built around the song you choose.
We’ll usually start with a simplified rhythm version so you can begin strumming along confidently early on. From there, you can decide how deep you want to go - whether that’s learning the riffs, licks, lead guitar parts, solos, or simply moving on to the next song.
I’ll help you build good habits without making things feel technical or overwhelming.
The sessions are relaxed and supportive.
No pressure.
No assessments.
No exams or grading.
No judgement.
Absolutely no rush.
For many people, learning guitar becomes more than a hobby.
Picking up my guitar has helped me through grief and some pretty tough times. It’s always there when I need it.
It helped me reconnect with myself while also building confidence, creativity, motivation, and a sense of progress.
Who knows - after you’ve built up a bit of a setlist, you too might find others to jam with and have a laugh, or even pull together a covers band for a reunion, birthday, or other event.
"Aaron has been very helpful to a slow learner like me and I need more tuition at the present 10 out of 10"
